What Does Spinal Nerve Stress Do To My Body?
The five components of Spinal Nerve Stress
(Vertebral Subluxation Complex)
The Vertebral Subluxation Complex describes what happens when spinal bones loose their normal position and motion.
Although
sometimes simply called "pinched nerves" it is, in fact, a complicated
abnormality that can seriously damage our physical and emotional health, rob us
of our vitality and strength, and lessen our ability to adapt to stress - thus
setting the stage for degeneration, premature aging, sickness, and disease.
KINESIOPATHOLOGY
(joint damage)
Posture is distorted. There
is accelerated aging of the skeletal system.
The joints, discs and ligaments have increased wear and tear; reduced
joint movement or range-of-motion; "clicking" noises, and joint
degeneration. As the posture
continues to shift from the center of gravity, more energy is diverted from
other areas to support the lost balance causing increased energy loss and
fatigue.
Nerve damage. The
nerves begin firing abnormally resulting in decreased blood supply to internal
organs including the brain itself. Decreased
blood supply causes the creation of free radicals, chemicals that destroy cell
membranes and have been linked to chronic degenerative conditions including
heart disease, cancer and accelerated aging.
Additionally, nerve compression damages the nerve's ability to transmit
messages, chemicals and trophic (growth / energy) impulses.
The altered nerve firings also cause a stress reaction (GAS or general
adaptive syndrome) that results in altered hormone levels throughout the body
also contributing to increased free radical formation.
The relationship between the nervous system and the internal organs,
joints and muscles is damaged.
Inflammation. Abnormal
pressures on joints and soft tissues cause swelling, redness, warmth, pain and
loss of function. Many areas become
sensitive to the touch; "hot spots" and trigger points develop.
Fibrosis or scar tissue develops and the joints become arthritic.
The connective tissue or fascia around the muscles, nerves and internal
organs distorts their movements and interferes with their function.
Muscles become abnormal. As
the muscles work harder to maintain a balanced posture, areas of muscular
tightness, spasm, and spasticity becomes chronic or long-standing.
Posture compensations spread to the shoulders, hips, knees, ankles and
feet causing joint, muscle, cartilage, tendon, and ligament weakness.
Muscular patterns develop that become ingrained, muscle-posture
distortions.
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY (health damage)
Health deterioration. Dis-ease or lack of wholeness causes overall health deterioration. The effects of aging accelerate. There is height loss, joint degeneration, and disc disease and less ability to respond to physical, chemical and emotional stress.
